Strawberry-Banana `a la Foster

4 firm ripe bananas
1 pint of fresh ripe red strawberries
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/4 cup orange juice
Vanilla ice cream
whipped cream
almond slices

Peel and slice bananas into about 1/2 inch thick slices. Wash, hull, and slice strawberries into 1/2 inch thick slices. Place fruit slices in a flat dish, then sprinkle with lemon juice. Toss lightly to coat the fruit, then set aside until dessert time.

In a large skillet combine brown sugar and butter or margarine. Cook over a medium high heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved. Remove the skillet from the heat and add the bananas, strawberries and orange juice. Return the skillet to stove. Cook and gently stir over low heat for about 1 minute or until the fruit is just warmed.

Spoon the warmed fruit mixture with syrup over ice cream in dessert dishes. Garnish with whipped cream and almond slices.

Serves 6 to 8
