Almond French Toast

3 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
6 - 1 inch thick slices day old, French bread
vegetable oil
1/4 cup sliced, toasted almonds
Powdered sugar
Maple syrup

Whisk the eggs and milk in a medium bowl. Mix in the brown sugar, almond extract and nutmeg. Pour mixture into a large shallow dish. Soak bread in the egg mixture for about 2 minutes per side. Warm a large skillet to a medium-low heat after adding the oil. Add the bread slices and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to serving plate then sprinkle with almond slices and sugar.

Serve with warmed maple syrup.
